In what marks the end of an unforgettable era in Ghana’s broadcasting space, celebrated radio personality Ike De Unpredictable has officially announced his departure from mainstream radio after an impressive 25-year career.
With mixed emotions, Ike shared that his journey, which remarkably began on the 96.1 frequency at Continental Radio, has fittingly come full circle as he signs off at Angel FM 96.1 in Kumasi.
A Journey of Growth and Impact
Ike’s path in radio has been nothing short of inspiring. He began his training under the mentorship of D.J. Azigiza Junior, owner of ZIGZAG, and later sharpened his craft with the guidance of D.J. Osooko at Otec FM. Along the way, industry greats such as D.J. Loving Cee and Willis at Continental Radio also played pivotal roles in shaping his career.
From Mighty FM in Asante Mampong around 2000, Ike went on to serve at various stations including Kiss FM (Drobo) and Kings Radio (Konongo), before catching the eye of business mogul Dr. Kwame Kyei, who brought him to Light FM. His big breakthrough came in 2007 when Dr. Kwaku Oteng offered him a spot at Angel 96.1 FM.
In 2016, Ike joined EIB Network’s Abusua 96.5 FM under the leadership of Bola Ray, before returning to Angel FM in 2019, where he has since been a household name.
A Heartfelt Tribute
In his farewell message, Ike expressed deep gratitude to the individuals, mentors, and institutions that contributed to his career growth. He paid a moving tribute to his late mother, who not only influenced his creativity but also introduced him to the music and recording industry at a young age.
He also acknowledged Mr. Samuel Kofi Acheampong (Bronzy Teflon) of ABN Ghana for his continuous support and friendship, while extending heartfelt appreciation to his loyal fans, listeners, Drive Crew, and all the celebrities who graced his programs over the years.
What’s Next for Ike
Although stepping away from the microphone in mainstream radio, Ike made it clear that he is “still a radio presenter.” Going forward, he intends to channel his experience into consultancy, mentoring, and grooming young and upcoming talents for the future of broadcasting.
“I am passionate about giving back to the industry that has given me so much,” Ike emphasized, reaffirming his commitment to shaping the next generation of radio presenters.
Legacy of an Unpredictable Voice
For 25 years, Ike De Unpredictable has not only entertained but also educated and inspired his audience. His departure from the airwaves is both emotional and celebratory, as fans reflect on his legacy and look forward to his next chapter.
Indeed, Ghana’s radio landscape will forever remember the Unpredictable Voice that defined an era.
