The Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Rita Akosua Awatey, in collaboration with YACO International Inc., a USA-based non-governmental organization, on Wednesday September 17, 2025 donated a consignment of medical supplies to the Eastern Regional Hospital and the New Juaben North Municipal Hospital to boost healthcare delivery in the region.

The items included quantities of folding hospital beds, infrared thermometer guns, boxes of large-sized hand gloves, boxes of small-sized gloves, nose masks, disposable surgical gowns, and a cash donation.

Presenting the items, the Minister commended health workers for their dedication to duty but urged them to intensify efforts to improve performance in healthcare indicators where the region continues to face challenges.

She also noted that government is making significant investments in health infrastructure, citing the construction of Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds across the region as part of efforts to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

During her visit, the Minister interacted with patients at the hospitals, who expressed satisfaction with the quality of care they are receiving. She further made a personal donation of items to support the hospitals.

The Chief Executive Officer of YACO International Inc., Mr. Stephen Agbo, explained that the organization collaborates with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in the United States to secure medical equipment and supplies for hospitals in Ghana.

“We realize there are a lot of challenges when it comes to hospital equipment. FEMA provides us with assets for Africa, and we pick them up and ship them to Ghana. The only challenge is clearing at the port. We are donating everything for free, so we plead with authorities to waive charges to make the process easier,” Mr. Agbo stated.

He added that beyond health, the organization is also supporting education and other initiatives to improve lives in Ghana, particularly in the Eastern Region.

The intervention is expected to strengthen healthcare delivery in Koforidua and complement ongoing government and private sector efforts to improve health outcomes.
