Look closely at this picture: Mama Effe, the iconic host of Obra on Nhyira FM, sitting side by side with Oheneni Adazoa of Sompa Nkommo on Sompa FM. At first glance, someone might say, “They run similar shows—they must be competitors.” But in Kumasi, that mindset doesn’t exist.
Here, media personalities don’t see each other as rivals. They see each other as family.
They uplift each other. They support one another’s growth. Mama Effe once welcomed MFK of Lawson onto her show—live on TV.
Akomeah, a sports journalist at Wontumi FM, freely goes to Fakye TV to do sports analysis. King Eben, with his massive platform, boldly campaigned for Abu Diaby on Fakye Sports. And Fancy? He can walk into any sports station in Kumasi and jump on the mic—no drama, no beef.
This is the secret sauce: unity, not division. Brotherhood, not competition.
Meanwhile, in other regions, it’s a different story. Petty rivalry. Unspoken envy. Backbiting. Some presenters can’t even mention the name of a colleague on a different station without raising eyebrows. That mindset is toxic—and it’s slowly killing radio in those places.
Kumasi is showing the way. It’s time the rest of Ghana takes notes.
Support each other. Celebrate each other. Let’s build together or we’ll all crumble apart.
Radio is not war. Radio is culture, connection, and community.
