Hon. Osei Bonsu Amoah, member of Parliament for Akuapem South and minister of state designate for Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development has expressed confidence in getting approval as a minister of state.

According to Hon. O B Amoah, he believes and has the confidence that, he, together with his other minister designate will definitely get the nod to assume their new portfolios.

Speaking to Afeema FM’s Igwe Gyan at a Tescon program at the Presbyterian Women College of Education in Aburi, the Akuapem South lawmaker accused the Minority of taking advantage of the slim majority nature of the eighth Parliament to disrupt government business.

“There is a slim majority in Parliament in the second term of President Akufo-Addo and due to that, the Minority has always wanted to take advantage of it. You will recall when President Akuffo Addo made appointments in his second term, they decided to disapprove Mavis Hawa Koomson, Ken Ofori Attah and others but later failed. They (Minority) in this case will either boycott or take to voting, if the plenary will use voting to decide on our fate, then am confident of our approval because we have the numbers. ” he said.

The Minority Caucus in Parliament has been demanding a merger of some ministries and a reduction of presidential staffers due to the supposed large size of government.

According to Cassiel Ato Forson, the minority leader, there is no need to appoint new ministers and that they will not approve any new minister or deputy appointee.
